The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has announced its provision of logistical support to the Electoral Commission of Guinea. This assistance is designed to facilitate the voting process for Guinean nationals residing in Sierra Leone in preparation for Guinea's presidential election, scheduled for Sunday, 28 December 2025.
As detailed in a press statement issued by ECSL on 26 December 2025, the support is being channeled through the Guinean Embassy in Sierra Leone. This cooperative effort aligns with the ECOWAS Network of Electoral Commissions (ECONEC) agreement, which governs collaboration among electoral management bodies throughout the West African sub-region.
This assistance will enable Guinean citizens residing in Sierra Leone to participate in the presidential election, with established polling stations in nine strategic locations nationwide. These centres are situated across the districts of Bo, Kenema, Kono, Kabala, Makeni, Kambia, Western Rural, and Western Urban.
ECSL has clearly specified that its function is strictly confined to logistical provisions, encompassing the supply of vehicles, drivers, and access to designated voting centres. The Commission underscored that it maintains no involvement in the conduct, supervision, or determination of the election's outcome, which remains the sole purview of the Guinean electoral authorities.
The logistical support operation commenced on 26 December and concludes on Monday, 29 December 2025, covering the pre-election, election day, and immediate post-election phases.
This presidential election follows a four-year period after a military takeover that resulted in the removal of former President Alpha Condé. The election is being held subsequent to recent political reforms, and the winner will be decided by a simple majority.
ECSL confirmed that this collaboration exemplifies ongoing regional cooperation among electoral bodies. Such efforts are aimed at promoting democratic participation and ensuring citizens can exercise their fundamental voting rights, even while residing outside of their home country.
