In a seemingly decisive move to confront the nation's escalating drug crisis, the Government of Sierra Leone has announced plans to admit 120 individuals suffering from kush addiction to the Kissy Psychiatric Hospital for an intensive rehabilitation program.

This initiative is a cornerstone of the National Task Force's broader strategy for treatment and support for substance abuse victims. The Ministry of Health and Sanitation, in collaboration with the National Public Health Agency and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, will oversee the 12-week program, according to reports from Truth Media.

Health officials have already conducted assessments at the Kissy Psychiatric Hospital to confirm its readiness to provide the necessary medical care and counseling for the selected patients, who are reported to be suffering from severe health complications related to their addiction. The ultimate goal of the program is to facilitate their recovery and successful reintegration into their communities.

Furthermore, the government has already allocated funds to bolster rehabilitation centers nationwide. Complementing the treatment efforts, the Ministry of Health, working closely with the Pharmacy Board, plans to strengthen regulations on pharmaceutical drugs entering Sierra Leone, aiming to curb the influx and availability of dangerous, unregulated substances such as kush.

The admission of these 120 victims begins to demonstrate the government's commitment to providing critical treatment and support, pairing direct intervention with stricter regulatory measures to combat the pervasive drug epidemic.
