Sierra Leone Women's Premier League to Commence in December

The Sierra Leone Women's Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to begin on December 21st in Kenema. The champions will receive a substantial prize of Four Hundred Million Old Leone, while the runners-up will be awarded Three Hundred Million Old Leone.

This information was disclosed during a press conference on Friday, November 29th. During the conference, WPLB Chairperson Catherine Sillah emphasized the league's dedication to player well-being and advancement.

She explained that matches will be held on artificial pitches throughout the country, including Kenema, Bo, Port Loko, Makeni, and Freetown, to ensure player comfort.

Furthermore, she stated that the league will comprise 12 teams this season, with the intention of reducing the number to 10 teams by the 2025/2026 season.

This strategic decision aims to elevate the overall quality of the league and provide greater opportunities for talented players.

Sillah also mentioned that the WPL Board is prioritizing player data management and transfer regulations. Utilizing the FIFA Connect training provided by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), the board aims to ensure transparency and efficiency in player transfers.

The WPL Board expressed gratitude to the government of Sierra Leone for their support and encouraged increased media coverage to promote women's football.
