As of May 17, 2026, four of the six individuals presumed drowned in the Moa River on Friday, May 15, 2026, have been recovered. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. at Kailondo Beach in Kenema. The recovered deceased have been identified as follows:
Mary Sannoh
Messie Wongo
Aminata Sillah
Foday Wai
Search and rescue efforts remain active for the two individuals who remain missing:
Joshua Orando Musa
Mamie Sellu
A preliminary investigation by the police indicates that the incident occurred during a birthday celebration for Joshua Orando Musa.
The group consisted of residents from No. 3 Q-Line, Foya Street, Kpayama Section. Reports suggest that the emergency began when Messie Wongo started struggling in the river.
The remaining five individuals attempted a rescue; however, due to a lack of swimming ability among the entire group, all six individuals were swept away by the river's current.
