The President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Alhaji Manika Kamara, underscored the essential need for public involvement in the implementation of the Tripartite Committee’s recommendations, highlighting the media's crucial role, especially radio, in promoting transparency, accountability, and democratic participation.

Kamara emphasized that these recommendations are not merely theoretical policy ideas but transformative measures designed to enhance governance and public trust. Their success relies on public ownership and comprehension of these reforms.

He noted that it is imperative for citizens to be informed about ongoing initiatives and to be provided with opportunities to participate, question, contribute, and shape reforms through informed dialogue.

He identified radio as the most accessible and trusted medium for public information in Sierra Leone, with significant potential to inform, educate, inspire dialogue, and bridge the gap between the government and citizens.

He urged participants to develop a radio program that goes beyond mere reporting, one that resonates with the public, fosters critical discussions, simplifies complex issues, and advocates for inclusivity, giving voice to women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities.

Kamara encouraged boldness, collaboration, and purpose in the program's design process, stating that it should inspire action, accountability, and hope. He expressed gratitude to the European Union, International IDEA, Talking Drum Studio, and the Independent Radio Network for their support and collaboration.

SLAJ remains committed to equipping journalists with the knowledge to inform the public, scrutinize processes, and report ethically to prevent conflict.
