Alhaji Manika Kamara, the President-Elect of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), is currently in Abuja, Nigeria, representing Sierra Leone at a high-level workshop organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
This event, taking place from 24–25 June 2025, gathers journalists from the ECOWAS region to validate the ILO Media Toolkit on Reporting Forced Labour and Fair Recruitment.
Mr. Kamara was nominated to attend this workshop by the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ). The workshop aims to improve media reporting on issues related to labour migration and fair recruitment.
This initiative supports the implementation of the Dakar Communique and efforts to strengthen the African Labour Migration Journalists Network.
Mr. Kamara expressed his commitment to promoting evidence-based and humane narratives on sensitive labour topics. The outgoing SLAJ President, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, praised the nomination, highlighting SLAJ's growing recognition across Africa.
SLAJ congratulates Mr. Kamara and thanks both the ILO and FAJ for their collaborative efforts in advancing ethical journalism and contributing to regional development.
