SLFA Concludes CAF C Coaching Course, Boosting Grassroots Talent

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has officially concluded the CAF C Diploma Coaching Course at its Freetown Secretariat. Orchestrated by the Technical Department, the initiative underscores the Association's strategic focus on grassroots football development and the institutionalization of coaching excellence throughout the nation.

The closing ceremony featured a distinguished delegation, including Deputy General Secretary Ismael Saidu Kanu Esq., Technical Director John Keister, Head of Competitions Sorie Ibrahim Sesay, and Female Football Manager Elizabeth Kailey. Their presence emphasized the high priority the SLFA places on technical capacity building within the sport's administrative and field operations.

Specifically designed for coaches specializing in the 12–16 age bracket, the CAF C Diploma curriculum provided comprehensive training in modern coaching methodologies. Participants engaged in rigorous classroom and practical modules covering tactical analysis, training theory, and long-term player development, all of which were delivered in strict accordance with CAF standards.

During the proceedings, Ismael Saidu Kanu expressed gratitude to Liberian CAF Instructor Keatu John Smith for his exemplary delivery of the training. On behalf of SLFA President Babadi Kamara and the Executive Committee, he extended formal congratulations to the cohort, with particular commendation for the female participants, including national team captain Sarah Bangura and former captain Hannah “Matta” Conteh.

Former Leone Stars forward Mustapha “Haji” Bangura lauded the SLFA leadership for providing these professional pathways, noting the vital importance of supporting former players as they transition into technical and coaching roles.

Elizabeth Kailey noted the significance of President Babadi Kamara’s decision to award full scholarships to all female attendees, a move aimed at fostering gender inclusivity. Instructor Keatu John Smith also praised the group’s aptitude and dedication to mastering both the theoretical and applied aspects of the course.

This program represents a significant milestone in the SLFA’s ongoing mission to cultivate a cadre of qualified professionals capable of identifying and nurturing the next generation of Sierra Leonean football talent.
