The All People's Congress (APC) has formally announced the cessation of its boycott of Parliament and local councils, confirming the immediate return of its elected officials to governance processes.

This decision, detailed in a press statement dated April 29, 2026, and signed by National Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya, aligns with the commitments stipulated in a communiqué issued by international moral guarantors following a joint assessment mission in Sierra Leone.

The statement mandates that APC Members of Parliament will resume their participation at the forthcoming parliamentary sitting, while all APC representatives in local councils are directed to return to their duties with immediate effect. The party framed this action as being taken in good faith and in adherence to the communiqué’s provision requiring the opposition to fully re-engage in governance at all tiers.

To ensure the success of this roadmap—which aims to restore trust, strengthen democratic institutions, and promote inclusive governance—the APC called for reciprocal commitment from the Government of Sierra Leone. Specifically, the party urged the immediate implementation of key agreed measures, including:

  • Laying the Agreement for National Unity and the Tripartite Committee Report before Parliament to guarantee transparency and broad national ownership.

  • Establishing a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Electoral Matters without delay. This committee is intended to review the electoral cycle, enhance preparedness, and guide necessary reforms in advance of the 2028 general elections.

The APC reaffirmed its dedication to constructive engagement, accountability, and systemic reforms, but emphasized that the viability of the entire process hinges on timely and genuine execution by all involved parties.

The party concluded by calling on the government, Parliament, and associated oversight institutions to act with urgency and sincerity in fulfilling these obligations in the interest of peace, democracy, and national stability.
