SLFA Receives Report on Player Bureh Koroma's Death

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has officially received the report from its Ad Hoc Committee, which was commissioned to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of former Mighty Blackpool player, Bureh Ganso Koroma. Committee Chair Victor Idrissa Lansana Esq presented the findings to SLFA President Babadi Kamara on Friday, 20 February 2026.

Established on 29 November 2025, the committee was mandated to review allegations of negligence following the player's passing in November 2025 after an on-pitch collision. While the investigation determined the collision did not cause a brain fracture, it concluded that the player was medically unfit to participate. His death was attributed to a combination of factors, including inadequate follow-up medical care, substance abuse, and non-adherence to medical advice. Furthermore, the report cited both the National Team and Mighty Blackpool for failing to ensure sustained access to quality medical attention.

The report also highlighted systemic deficiencies within Sierra Leonean football, noting the absence of structured medical policies, pre-match medical fitness tests, standby ambulances, and a comprehensive doping control regime.

President Kamara expressed gratitude for the committee's thorough work and pledged to present the document to the Executive Committee to establish a clear implementation timeline for the recommendations. These include financial support for the late player's children's education, establishing player medical schemes, and improving coordination between coaches and medical teams.

The SLFA is also finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding with the 34 Military Hospital for player medical support and planning a joint emergency medical fund with Premier League clubs.
