SLPHA Ensures Seamless Transit for ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit

The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has concluded a successful eight-day maritime support operation for the 2026 ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit, reinforcing the country's logistical capacity to host high-profile regional diplomatic events.
During the summit, SLPHA maintained six crossings between Freetown and Lungi. The operation provided essential, secure transit for a roster of regional leaders, including Sierra Leone’s President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, alongside the Presidents of The Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania, and Cabo Verde. The Authority also facilitated movement for cabinet ministers, accredited ambassadors from international partners like Iran and China, and official delegates.
To ensure consistent service, the SLPHA mobilized personnel across its primary transit hubs—Government Wharf, Kissy Ferry Terminal, and Tagrin Ferry Terminal.
Director General Yankuba Askia Bio oversaw the deployment, maintaining a consistent presence at the terminals and aboard the MV Muzuk to ensure operational efficiency.
The Authority’s performance drew praise from government officials, including Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation Rex Bonapha, who inspected the operation and lauded the services as "top notch."
In a statement following the summit, the SLPHA highlighted that the operation served as a testament to the Authority's commitment to national development and regional integration.
By ensuring reliable maritime connectivity during the international gathering, the Authority aimed to demonstrate Sierra Leone's growing readiness as a dependable partner for future regional engagements.
