The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has issued a statement on 14th November 2025, to address recent Nigerian media reports linking a container, allegedly originating from Sierra Leone, to the discovery of illicit narcotics in a Nigerian port.
The SLPHA state that have not received formal confirmation of the allegations from the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), despite initiating requests for official information to fully investigate the matter.
Through its own internal investigation, the SLPHA has confirmed with the shipping company Grimaldi that the container in question departed Sierra Leone in an empty state and was discharged in Nigeria in the same empty condition. This empty status remained unchanged until the container was flagged eight days later in Lagos, Nigeria.
The SLPHA categorically denies any connection to the alleged discovery of narcotics and has established a verifiable timeline confirming the container's empty condition upon departure from Sierra Leone and its subsequent discharge in Nigeria.
