SLRA Inspects Site for Tonkolili Road Reconstruction Project

The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has concluded a pre-bid meeting and site visit along the Azzolini Highway in Magburaka for the proposed reconstruction of the 97-kilometre Magburaka-Bumbuna-Sambaia Bendugu Road in Tonkolili District.

The engagement brought together representatives from the Tonkolili District Council, Leone Rock Metal Group, Kingho Mining Company, prospective contractors, the National Public Procurement Authority (NPPA), and civil society organizations.

The pre-bid site visit provided contractors with firsthand knowledge to examine road alignment, terrain, drainage systems, and pavement conditions before submitting formal bids.

SLRA Director General, Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu, emphasized that the site inspection ensures a transparent and competitive procurement process, allowing bidders to assess technical challenges and deliver realistic proposals.

He highlighted the government's public-private partnership model—involving the Ministry of Finance and local mining firms—to fund the project sustainably.

Local leaders and civil society representatives welcomed the milestone, noting that paving the corridor will boost healthcare, education, and regional commerce. Procurement officials reminded bidders that submissions will be rigorously evaluated based on technical competence, financial capacity, and climate resilience considerations.
