Musa Tarawally Is Still a Party Member, CDP National Council Says

The National Council of the Citizens Democratic Party (CDP) has formally declared that Alhaji Musa Tarawally remains an active member of the party, firmly rejecting recent claims by four regional chairmen asserting he departed in 2018.

During a high-level executive meeting in Bo City on Saturday, October 3, 2026, the Council unanimously endorsed a September 3 directive issued by the National Secretary General, which confirmed Tarawally's ongoing affiliation with the CDP.

Party leadership clarified that no official resignation tendered by Tarawally has ever been received or reviewed. As the CDP’s second-highest decision-making authority, the National Council emphasized that any member's resignation requires formal deliberation and official council ratification before taking effect.

“Internal records—including official meeting minutes and attendance registries—unmistakably document his continued standing within the party,” the Council noted in a statement.

This resolution directly refutes a September 18 press release signed by four regional chairmen, who alleged that Tarawally resigned on June 15, 2018, to rejoin the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP)—a transition the chairmen claimed to have personally witnessed.

Disavowing that release, the National Council stated that the chairmen acted without authorization or required internal consultation, rendering their statement null and void.

“The CDP officially disavows the unauthorized press release issued by the regional chairmen,” the National Council declared, reiterating that no valid notice of resignation exists on record.

The dispute surrounding Tarawally's status reached a boiling point after the ruling SLPP cited the CDP Secretary General's September 3 letter to order Tarawally to cease presenting himself as an SLPP member or presidential flagbearer aspirant.

Tarawally has strongly contested the CDP’s claims, insisting he severed ties with the party in 2018 and maintains full membership, delegate status, and financial standing within the SLPP.

Legal representatives for Tarawally have since mounted a challenge against the SLPP's directive, citing his 2018 departure and referencing the regional chairmen’s testimony to argue that his CDP membership terminated years ago.

As the political impasse continues, the CDP National Council has urged the public and party faithful to rely exclusively on official releases. Representatives from the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) were present to observe the proceedings in Bo City.
