SLRSA Bans Unroadworthy, Unregistered Vehicles from Queen Elizabeth II Quay

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has announced new measures preventing unroadworthy and unregistered vehicles from entering the Queen Elizabeth II Quay as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety at the country’s main seaport.

In a public notice issued on 31 July 2026, the Authority said the measures form part of the Government of Sierra Leone’s broader efforts to decongest the port and improve the efficient movement of people and goods.

According to the SLRSA, vehicles deemed unroadworthy will not be granted access to the Queen Elizabeth II Quay and will also be prohibited from using public roads until they have been repaired and certified fit for operation.

“Any vehicle that is not roadworthy will not be allowed to enter the Queen Elizabeth II Quay. Such vehicles will also not be allowed to use public roads until they have been repaired and certified as roadworthy,” the Authority stated.

The Authority further announced that vehicles without valid registration number plates will also be denied entry into the port.

“Vehicles that do not have a valid registration number plate will not be allowed to enter the Queen Elizabeth II Quay,” the notice added.

The SLRSA also appealed to members of the public to support the initiative by reporting abandoned vehicles and those obstructing traffic. Reports can be made through the Authority’s toll-free number, 844.

The Authority said the success of the measures depends on the cooperation of vehicle owners, drivers, importers, clearing agents, and other road users, adding that the initiative is aimed at maintaining a safer, more orderly, and less congested environment around the Queen Elizabeth II Quay.

“Together, let us make our roads safer for everyone,” the Authority stated.
