The Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) has issued a grave warning, stating that a substantial number of Senior Secondary School students face the risk of exclusion from the 2026 West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The crisis stems from widespread failure by schools to upload their Continuous Assessment Score System (CASS) Year 1 entries to the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) portal.
In a statement made on Tuesday, 3 December 2025 and the SLTU revealed a disturbing statistic: as of 1 December, a mere 456 of the 1,045 Senior Secondary Schools across the nation had successfully submitted their CASS data.
The union described the situation as "worrisome," underscoring that the absence of these crucial scores could severely disadvantage otherwise genuine candidates when their final WASSCE results are being computed. CASS records reflect a student’s performance over their senior secondary years and are mandatorily combined with the final examination results.
The SLTU is urgently calling on all Principals who have yet to comply to immediately upload their CASS Year 1 entries. The union stressed the critical nature of the impending deadline, 31 December 2025, and highlighted that timely submission is the only way to guarantee all eligible students are permitted to sit for next year’s national examinations without unfair exclusion.
