Myk Berewa, Director of Communications in the Office of the President, has issued a statement in defense of Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh’s recent professional travel with the artist LAJ. Mr. Berewa stated that the arrangement is appropriate and consistent with a national commitment to providing opportunities for all citizens.

In the public statement, Berewa underscored that “Alhaji is a Sierra Leonean and is entitled to every opportunity that presents itself, just as all our citizens are.” He further emphasized that national opportunities should not be restricted based on an individual’s background or public profile, highlighting the administration’s principle of inclusivity and equitable access to national programs.

This defense follows public discussion regarding the Chief Minister’s collaboration with LAJ, who recently received a presidential pardon and is now involved in government-supported initiatives, including international representation. Berewa positioned the joint travel as reflective of a broader government strategy to facilitate development and national contribution from all sectors of the citizenry.

He concluded that these engagements align with the government’s core objectives of promoting fairness, recognizing talent, and ensuring the equitable distribution of government support across diverse professional fields in Sierra Leone.

The specific official nature of the engagement during the trip was not detailed in the communication.
