In anticipation of the December festive season, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has instituted a comprehensive set of regulations to ensure public safety, mitigate crime, prevent accidents, and maintain order across the country.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Brima Kamara, addressing the media, underscored that these proactive measures are essential for the protection of citizens and the preservation of national security throughout the holiday period.
Key directives outlined by ACP Kamara include a prohibition on loud music or excessive noise after 10:00 PM. Furthermore, all street processions, carnivals, and masquerade activities must secure prior written authorisation from the SLP. The discharge of firearms, rockets, and the use of fireworks are strictly banned nationwide.
Traffic regulations will also be rigorously enforced. Drivers are reminded that operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol is illegal, and all vehicles must possess valid registration. The use of temporary vehicle registrations issued after 6:00 PM is prohibited on public roads. Additionally, the operation of "okadas" (commercial motorbikes) is restricted within the Freetown Central Business District. Religious and other organisations planning street events are similarly required to obtain official written clearance from the police.
ACP Kamara concluded by stating that these actions are aimed at guaranteeing peace, safety, and security in Sierra Leone during the festive season, affirming that the police will take decisive action to ensure full compliance with the new regulations.
