Soro Gbeima Land Committee Receives Training on Land Governance

With support from Welthungerhilfe through the Land for Life Secretariat, Partners Initiative for Conflict Transformation (PICOT) has concluded a one-day training and capacity-building session for members of the Chiefdom Land Committee in Soro Gbeima Chiefdom, Pujehun District.

The training, facilitated by PICOT District Director Maxwell V. Kemokai with support from the District Facilitator, focused on strengthening members’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities in land governance.

Speaking at the opening, the Chiefdom Speaker of Soro Gbeima, Chief Zokers, welcomed participants on behalf of the Paramount Chief and expressed appreciation to Welthungerhilfe and the Land for Life Secretariat for the intervention.

The training covered the purpose of the Customary Land Rights Act and the institutions established to support its implementation. Participants also examined the composition and functions of Chiefdom Land Committees, the role of the Chiefdom Registry and grievance redress mechanisms for resolving land disputes.

The session further provided practical guidance on using grievance complaint forms and dispute resolution logs, maintaining key records such as the land transactions register and communal land register, conducting meetings and setting agendas, and submitting quarterly reports to the District Land Commission.

The engagement strengthened participants’ capacity to promote transparency, accountability, peaceful land management and the protection of land rights within the chiefdom.

The training forms part of ongoing efforts by Welthungerhilfe, through the Land for Life Secretariat and PICOT, to strengthen local land governance structures and promote fair, inclusive, peaceful and sustainable land management in communities.
