Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences facility at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) on Monday, August 17, 2026.

Joined by senior ministry officials, Dr. Demby reviewed progress on the US$3.5 million development and discussed target completion timelines with project contractors.

Designed to serve as a hub for medical training, research, and innovation, the state-of-the-art facility will accommodate approximately 1,500 students upon completion. The infrastructure features modern laboratories, interactive classrooms, and advanced research facilities intended to significantly improve the learning environment for students and faculty alike.

“We will use this facility to train the next generation of health professionals,” Dr. Demby emphasized during the visit.

The multi-million dollar project marks a critical milestone in strengthening Sierra Leone's medical education infrastructure.

By expanding practical learning spaces and enhancing scientific capabilities, the facility aims to equip future healthcare workers with the skills necessary to advance the nation's health sector.
