Star Sport Academy Secure Narrow Victory Over Wilberforce Strikers

A first-half strike from Ibrahim Sona Conteh proved decisive as Star Sport Academy secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wilberforce Strikers FC on Sunday, 14 June, at the SLFA Academy Field in Kingtom.

The only goal of the match came in the 32nd minute when Momoh Conteh delivered a well-placed corner into the box, and Ibrahim Sona Conteh reacted quickest to guide the ball past Wilberforce Strikers goalkeeper Francis Koroma.

The breakthrough proved to be the difference in what was a tightly contested encounter.

Wilberforce Strikers returned from the break with renewed determination, pressing for an equalizer, but Star Sport Academy’s defense remained organized and disciplined throughout the second half.

The visitors’ frustration began to show as Mohamed Tarawally was booked in the 47th minute, followed by Mohamed Kargbo in the 58th minute. Their situation worsened in the 67th minute when Assistant Coach Abdul Karim Bah was shown a red card for dissent.

Star Sport Academy also had Alpha Bedor Conteh booked in the 34th minute, but the academy side maintained their composure, absorbing pressure and defending resolutely to preserve their slender advantage.

At the final whistle, Ibrahim Sona Conteh’s first-half effort stood as the match winner, earning Star Sport Academy all three points against a determined Wilberforce Strikers side.

Defender Mohamed Sillah was named Man of the Match for his commanding display at the back, playing a key role in neutralizing Wilberforce Strikers’ attacking threats and helping his side secure a clean sheet.
