Residents across several communities in the Western Area are experiencing widespread power outages today following a heavy storm that damaged key sections of the electricity distribution network.
The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) confirmed in a press statement that the severe weather conditions triggered multiple faults across the system, resulting in a significant blackout affecting both residential and commercial areas.
The outages have impacted several neighborhoods and institutions, including Barmouth Community, Kuntorloh Community, Orugu Village, and New England. Other affected locations include Barmoi Hotel, Murray Town Barracks, Sierra Leone Grammar School, the Upper Medical Store, Spur Road, Spur Loop, Okeky, KADCO, and surrounding areas near the Chinese community.
EDSA stated that its technical teams were immediately deployed following the storm to assess and respond to the damage. According to the authority, engineers have already identified specific fault points within the network and are currently carrying out emergency repair works on site.
While no definite timeline has yet been provided for full restoration of electricity, EDSA assured the public that efforts are ongoing to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
The authority emphasized that safety remains a top priority, urging residents to exercise caution and avoid all downed or exposed power lines, which should be treated as live and dangerous.
EDSA further appealed for public cooperation as repair teams work under challenging conditions to stabilize the affected sections of the network and restore normal electricity supply across the impacted communities.
