Suspect Apprehended in Freetown Drug Seizure Following Community Tip-Off
Officers from the Ross Road Harbour Division arrested a woman on Thursday following an intelligence-led operation at the Peace Market Lorry Park, law enforcement officials confirmed.
The suspect, identified as Bintu Joe of Cole Street, Yellow Mosque, Waterloo, was taken into custody on September 24 after police intercepted her at the transport hub based on actionable community intelligence.
During the operation, authorities searched a blue rubber storage vessel—locally known as a Kolema—found in Joe's possession. The search yielded significant quantities of illicit narcotics and prescription substances, including pharmaceuticals labeled Mark 300, 250, and 255, suspected Tramadol, and multiple packages of suspected Kush.
Police officials credited the successful interdiction to recent outreach initiatives conducted with local stakeholders at Peace Market. These engagements aimed to foster community-policing partnerships, discouraging the concealment of illegal activity and urging residents to report suspicious behavior promptly.
"Community participation remains a cornerstone of our strategy for crime prevention and public safety maintenance," the Sierra Leone Police said in a statement following the arrest.
A formal investigation into the origin and intended distribution of the seized substances remains ongoing.
