Intending All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has expressed confidence in her ability to secure the party’s nomination for the 2028 presidential elections, citing her lifelong engagement in politics and her family’s political legacy.
Speaking on Truth Media, Blyden said she has the “potential to be a fantastic presidential candidate” and believes she could win the election in the first round. “I will win the election first round without even sweating,” she stated.
Born on October 1, 1971, Blyden described herself as having been immersed in politics from birth, noting she became a “card-carrying member of the APC the day I was born.” She highlighted her family’s seven generations of political involvement, which she said provided a strong foundation for leadership and public service.
Reflecting on her personal journey, Blyden said, “My life trajectory has been one where God has guided me repeatedly unto the path of serving Sierra Leone.” She framed her political ambition around national development, adding: “Donald Trump wants to make America great again. I want to make Sierra Leone great again.”
Addressing women in leadership, Blyden emphasized competence over gender: “Women’s leadership has never been the question. It will never be the question. The question is whether we have a competent woman now that we can entrust Sierra Leone to.”
Blyden concluded by urging citizens to recognize her potential and consider her as a serious contender for the presidency. Her remarks signal a confident entry into the APC’s emerging race for the 2028 flagbearer position.
