Teen Remanded to High Court For Break-ins

A 17-year-old youth has been remanded to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown following a ruling by Pademba Road Court No. 1 that sufficient evidence exists to send his house-breaking case to the High Court for trial.

The defendant, Alimamy Bayoh, appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah facing a charge of house breaking with intent, contrary to Section 27(2) of the Larceny Act of 1916. The charge stems from an incident on August 24, 2026, in Mamadu Town, Gloucester Village, located in the Mountain Rural District, where Bayoh allegedly broke into the home of Boima Momoh.

During the committal proceedings, prosecutor DPC 17649 Brima Kargbo presented witnesses and introduced evidence before formally closing the prosecution's case. No plea was entered during the hearing, as the proceedings were held strictly to evaluate whether the case warranted a High Court trial. Bayoh was unrepresented by legal counsel throughout the process.

Delivering his ruling, Magistrate Jah stated that after reviewing the prosecution's evidence and the defendant's statement, he was satisfied that the matter met the standard for committal. He subsequently committed Bayoh to stand trial at the High Court and ordered him remanded in custody pending the scheduling of his hearing.

The charge against Bayoh remains an allegation, and his guilt or innocence will be formally determined by the High Court.
