Wilberforce Strikers and Abacha City FC played to a highly competitive 1-1 draw in their Leone Rock Premier League Match Day fixture on Tuesday at the SLFA Academy. The encounter was marked by tactical resilience from the hosts, who managed to secure a point despite playing the majority of the match with ten men.
The Strikers opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Randy M. George converted a clinical assist from Mohamed Tarawally. While the home side initially controlled the tempo, the match grew increasingly physical. The momentum shifted significantly in first-half stoppage time when Momoh Kamanda received a red card, leaving Wilberforce at a numerical disadvantage.
Abacha City FC exploited the opening almost immediately, equalizing in the closing moments of the first half. Kerifa Koroma found the net following a well-placed pass from Harold Turay, sending both teams into the interval level at 1-1. The second half maintained a high intensity, resulting in several bookings for Abacha City’s Delvin David and Samuel Jide Conteh as they sought a winning goal.
The match reached a boiling point in the 58th minute, leading to the dismissals of several members of the Wilberforce Strikers’ technical staff, including Goalkeeper Coach Ibrahim Souri Mansaray and Chairman Mohamed Samura Sanu, while Head Coach Gibrila WooBay was cautioned. Despite the external distractions and being a man down on the pitch, the Strikers demonstrated defensive discipline to preserve the draw.
Wilberforce Strikers’ Randy M. George was named Man of the Match for his influential performance and opening goal.
