Ten individuals have been sentenced to one month in prison for engaging in idle and disorderly behavior, following their conviction by Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1.
The accused—Alusine Kamara, Abdul Ishmael Kamara, Mohamed Bilah Jalloh, Mohamed Fornah, Mohamed Kallon, Alphajor Bah, James Mansaray, Ansumana Turay, Abdulai Sama Kallon, and Ahmed Sesay—were charged with violating Section 7 of the Public Order Act No. 6 of 1965, which prohibits idling and behaving in a disorderly manner.
An eleventh individual, Lawrence Golia, was also charged but pleaded not guilty and has been remanded to the Pademba Road Male Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.
According to court records, the convicted individuals were found loitering "in a loose and disorderly manner" in the Lumley area of Freetown.
When the charges were read, ten of the accused pleaded guilty, while Lowrence Golia pleaded not guilty. The prosecution, led by Ziza Esq., presented their case without any of the accused being represented by legal counsel.
After hearing submissions from the prosecution and mitigation from the ten accused persons, Magistrate Jah sentenced them all to one month imprisonment. The second accused, Lowrence Golia, who pleaded not guilty, was remanded to the Male Correctional Facility to await trial.
