Two Chinese Nationals Granted Bail in $54,825 Case

A Freetown magistrate has granted bail to two Sinotruk representatives accused of conspiring to defraud a Hong Kong firm of $54,825 through false assurances regarding a shipment of 270 tyres.

Defendants Jai Qibin and Zhou Rong appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1, where they face joint charges of conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretenses

.

According to court documents, the alleged offenses occurred on April 26, 2025, at 8 Kallon Drive in Aberdeen, Freetown. Prosecutors contend that the defendants, acting alongside associates at China-based Sinotruk International Capital Co. Limited, dishonestly induced Hong Kong What Group Co. Limited to transfer $54,825 for the purchase of 270 tyres.

The prosecution alleges that the defendants falsely represented that the shipment would consist of Chaoyang and Double Coin brand tyres meeting all contractual specifications.

A second count specifically alleges that the accused obtained the funds from Hong Kong What Group and Yang Ruilan by falsely claiming Sinotruk would fulfill the supply agreement.

No pleas were entered during the appearance, as Magistrate Jah confirmed the matter will proceed as a preliminary investigation prior to committal.

Defence attorneys I. Turay and M.A. Fahad renewed their bail application on behalf of both defendants, which Magistrate Jah subsequently granted.

The court has adjourned proceedings until October 12, 2026.
