Two Remanded Over Alleged Theft of Solar System in Freetown

Two defendants have been remanded in custody after appearing before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny involving a solar system.

The accused, Memunatu Kamara Lebbie, a 32-year-old trader, and Joseph Lavalie, a 45-year-old mason, are alleged to have conspired with unknown individuals to steal a solar system valued at 102,000 Leones, property belonging to Maner Shabon.

The alleged incident reportedly occurred on Monday, 6th April 2025, at Calaba Town in the Western Area of Freetown.

When the charges were read and explained in court, both defendants pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, informed the court that witness statements had been served on the defendants. He further applied for a subpoena to be issued to a prosecution witness who was absent from court.

Given the seriousness of the charges, Magistrate Fornah denied bail and ordered that both accused persons be remanded at the male correctional facility in Freetown.

The matter has been adjourned to 7th May 2026 for further hearing.
