Proceedings were brief at Pademba Road Court No. 2 as 58-year-old chef Moses Sarrah Sesay made his initial appearance regarding the alleged murder of Zainab Jalloh in Tombo Village.

Magistrate John Manso Fornah read and explained the charge to Sesay, who entered no plea. The court denied bail due to the gravity of the offense, remanding the accused to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.

Authorities charged Sesay with committing murder between Saturday, 27 June, and Sunday, 28 June 2026, in the Western Rural Area.

The charge was brought under Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, as amended by Section 1(a) of the Schedule to the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act, 2021 (Act No. 6 of 2022).

Because the matter remains at the committal stage, the state has not yet proved the allegations. Sesay maintains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Prosecutor Inspector Florence Wilson confirmed to the court that the defendant had been served with copies of the case file and inquiry documents. She requested subpoenas for key prosecution witnesses who were not present.

Sesay, appearing without legal representation, acknowledged receipt of the legal documentation.

Magistrate Fornah adjourned proceedings to 30 October 2026, when prosecution witnesses are expected to testify to determine if sufficient evidence exists to send the case to trial.
