USL Academic Staff Vow to Continue Strike Over Salary Demands

Academic staff at the University of Sierra Leone (USL) have officially resolved to persist with their ongoing industrial action. The decision comes as faculty members hold firm on their demands for a 100 percent salary increase and the immediate approval of revised Conditions of Service from the Government.
The resolution was finalized following a general membership meeting of the Academic Staff Association of the University of Sierra Leone (ASA-USL) held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the Tunde Cole Building on the Fourah Bay College campus.
ASA-USL—which represents academic personnel across Fourah Bay College (FBC), the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), and the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS)—emphasized that strike activities will not cease until the Government fully satisfies their demands or delivers a binding, written commitment to address them.
Despite the firm stance on maintaining the strike, union leaders indicated they remain open to dialogue with government representatives.
However, leadership underscored that any eventual proposal to suspend or call off the industrial action must first be presented to and approved by the general membership during a plenary session.
Additionally, the Association urged UASA to step up outreach efforts and intensify engagements with key stakeholders and authorities to expedite a resolution to the deadlock.
The announcement was issued on Tuesday by ASA-USL President Desmond Songo-Davies.
