USL Rusticates Law Student Over Respect Issues With Dean

According to an official letter signed by University Registrar Munda J. S. Lebbie, a committee at Fourah Bay College investigated comments Jamiru posted in June 2026 on the Faculty of Law’s WhatsApp forum. The inquiry concluded that her statements constituted disrespectful and insulting language directed at the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Alusine Jalloh.
During the proceedings, Jamiru acknowledged writing the messages but maintained that her critique targeted the Dean's official actions rather than his character personally. However, the committee rejected the distinction, leading the Vice-Chancellor and Principal to endorse the one-year suspension.
“You therefore stand RUSTICATED for the 2026/2027 Academic Year,” Registrar Lebbie stated in the correspondence.
Under the terms of the disciplinary action, Jamiru will be allowed to resume her studies in the 2027/2028 academic year at her current level, subject to full payment of fees and registration before attending lectures.
The university noted that Jamiru retains the right to appeal the sanction to the Court of the University of Sierra Leone within 14 days under Section 50(5) of the Universities Act, 2021. It remains unconfirmed whether she plans to lodge an appeal.
