Education Stakeholders Trained to Improve School Feeding in Karene

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), has trained education stakeholders in Karene District to strengthen the implementation of the Homegrown School Feeding Programme.

The two-day capacity-building exercise was organised by the National School Feeding Secretariat (NSFS) of MBSSE to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to support the effective and sustainable delivery of school feeding at the community level.

Participants included MBSSE school feeding monitors, head teachers, members of School Management Committees (SMCs), representatives of Farmer-Based Organisations (FBOs) and other key education stakeholders.

The training focused on strengthening the capacity of these stakeholders to support programme implementation through school-level oversight, community participation and collaboration with local farmer organisations.

The Homegrown School Feeding Programme links school meals with local food production, making cooperation between education stakeholders and farmer organisations important to its effective implementation.

The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by MBSSE and WFP to strengthen local capacity and improve the delivery of school feeding in Karene District.
