Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, acting in his capacity as Chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Decentralization and Local Governance (IMC), held a critical meeting with Mayors and District Chairpersons from APC-led councils and municipalities on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. The objective was to resolve the current local governance impasse and identify practical, expedited solutions to operational challenges affecting several local councils.
The Vice President emphasized that this engagement underscores a mutual commitment to ensuring the continuous, effective functioning of local councils nationwide, thereby guaranteeing uninterrupted delivery of essential services. Both parties affirmed a strong willingness to resolve the outstanding issues, recognizing the smooth operation of local government bodies as a national priority.
The dialogue concluded productively, with all participants agreeing to pursue further engagements to solidify cooperation and build consensus. Stakeholders were encouraged to fully leverage the IMC as a primary platform for dialogue, mediation, and collaborative problem-solving regarding local governance issues.
Vice President Jalloh reiterated the crucial role of decentralization in enhancing grassroots service delivery, urging political and institutional leaders to prioritize citizen interests over partisan concerns. He stressed that effective leadership must remain centered on public service, as governance fundamentally exists to improve the welfare of the populace. "We must always remember that we are in service to our citizens," the Vice President stated, advocating for sustained collaboration, peace, and institutional dialogue.
This engagement is integral to the IMC's ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions affecting APC-led councils and strengthen the cooperative relationship between the central government and local authorities.
