Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has said that food prices in Sierra Leone are lower compared to neighbouring Guinea and Liberia, citing rice, flour, oil, and onions as key examples.
He made the remarks during the London edition of the Civic Day Series, where he spoke on government reforms, economic performance, and ongoing efforts to improve living standards.
According to the Vice President, price comparisons across the region show that Sierra Leone maintains relatively lower costs for several essential commodities despite global economic pressures.
“If you look at Sierra Leone today, rice, flour, oil and onions are cheaper in Sierra Leone than in neighbouring Guinea and Liberia,” he said.
He noted that the trend reflects government efforts to stabilise the economy and improve the availability and supply of basic goods across the country.
Juldeh Jalloh also highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening food security and supporting agricultural production to ensure continued access to essential commodities.
His comments formed part of a broader discussion on economic reforms and policies being implemented to address cost of living concerns.
The statement comes amid continued public debate across the region over rising food prices and household affordability.
