WAEC to Investigate 47,454 Withheld 2026 WASSCE Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will investigate 47,454 candidates whose results were withheld over suspected examination malpractice in the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education Conrad Sackey has announced.
Sackey said each case would be reviewed individually, with cleared results released and those found guilty of malpractice cancelled in accordance with WAEC regulations. He emphasised that withholding results does not automatically mean candidates have been found guilty.
To expedite the process, the Chief Education Officer, who represents the government at WAEC, will work with the relevant committee. The Ministry is also seeking to have three respected educationists attend committee meetings as observers to promote fairness and public confidence.
Candidates can check their results status through WAEC Sierra Leone’s irregularities portal at waecsierraleone.org/irregularities.
The Minister warned that centre managers, supervisors, invigilators, principals and school proprietors found to have facilitated malpractice could face disciplinary action. Principals and proprietors implicated in corrupt practices may also be referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and required to refund government funds paid for ineligible candidates.
