Zainab Sheriff Remains in Custody as Magistrate Denies Bail Once Again

In the ongoing trial of model and activist Zainab Sheriff, Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah has denied bail for the fourth consecutive time. Ms. Sheriff, who faces charges of inciting conduct and the use of threatening language, is scheduled to remain in custody pending her next court appearance on March 18, 2026.

During the proceedings, the defense moved for bail, asserting that the defendant does not present a flight risk or a threat to potential witnesses. Furthermore, the defense emphasized Ms. Sheriff's established record in national development and her advocacy for women's empowerment.

The prosecution maintained its opposition to the application, citing the gravity of the allegations. Following a review of the arguments, Magistrate Jah upheld the prosecution's position and formalised the continued detention of the defendant.

Evidence presented thus far concerns a video allegedly distributed via digital platforms, including "Born 2 Blog" and "Liberty TV." Authorities contend the content incited violence against individuals suspected of electoral interference. The investigation involved the defendant's arrest at Main Goderich Road and the seizure of a mobile device for forensic examination.

The matter remains a point of significant public interest given its broader social and political context. The court expects to hear further testimony and review additional evidence when the trial resumes.
