Flagbearer aspirant of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), Ady Macauley, has stated that the party intends to peacefully march to meet the President, emphasizing the civic nature of the planned demonstration and its broader relevance to Sierra Leoneans.
Speaking on AYV on Tuesday, Macauley said:
“It’s our intention to peacefully come out in our numbers to march and see the President.”
He explained that some of the issues the APC intends to raise during the planned protest are matters he believes would also benefit security personnel, including police and military officers. He added that the party is committed to ensuring the demonstration remains peaceful and orderly, while calling on authorities to provide adequate security coverage.
The planned march comes amid rising political tensions following the appointment of Edmond Sylvester Alpha as Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL). The APC has raised concerns that the appointment could undermine public confidence in the electoral process and affect future elections.
Macauley’s remarks underscore the party’s intention to pursue its grievances through nonviolent civic engagement, while signaling continued political pressure over electoral governance issues.
