APC flagbearer aspirant Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has addressed concerns about her financial capacity, stating that she is adequately prepared to pursue the party’s flagbearer position and the presidency of Sierra Leone.
Speaking on Liberty Online TV, Aki-Sawyerr dismissed claims that she lacks the financial strength required to run for high office. She expressed confidence in her ability to support her political ambition and emphasized that financial readiness should not be viewed as the responsibility of a single individual.
She explained that political campaigns within the All People’s Congress are traditionally funded through collective contributions from party members and supporters rather than by one financier. According to her, the APC has a long-standing culture of shared responsibility in financing major political activities.
Aki-Sawyerr noted that her confidence is grounded in both personal preparedness and the party’s existing structures, which allow candidates to draw on broad-based support. She stressed that leadership and vision, not financial resources alone, should dominate discussions about the party’s future.
Her remarks come amid ongoing public debate over potential APC contenders ahead of the next general elections, with financial capacity often cited as a key issue.
Although the APC has yet to officially open its flagbearer process, comments from prominent figures such as Aki-Sawyerr continue to shape discussions around leadership, readiness, and the party’s direction.
