APC Challenges PPRC Fine, Demands Authentic Evidence of Alleged Violation

The All People’s Congress (APC) has formally responded to the fine issued by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) over an alleged breach of Section 39(1) of the Political Parties Act (No. 25 of 2022) by its Falaba District Chairman, Hon. Lahai Marah, arguing that it has not been provided with authenticated evidence to support the allegation.

In a letter dated 18 November 2025 and addressed to the Commission’s Executive Secretary, the APC stated that it was unaware of any verified incident involving Hon. Marah that would constitute a violation of the Act. The party maintained that any regulatory action must be grounded in established facts.

“Before any allegation can be entertained, it is essential that facts are properly established and any supporting materials provided meet the standard of authenticity and reliability,” the letter noted.

The APC further expressed concern about the increasing circulation of manipulated media content, stressing that regulatory bodies must apply rigorous scrutiny before acting on such materials. It also raised concerns about what it described as inconsistencies in enforcement, pointing out that individuals from other political parties had made similar public statements without attracting comparable action from the Commission.

Reaffirming the need for impartial regulation, the APC stated that “an umpire must not be seen to lean toward any political actor,” adding that neutrality is fundamental to maintaining public trust in the Commission’s oversight role.

The party formally requested access to the full, unedited, and verifiable evidence including metadata on which the PPRC based the accusation against Hon. Marah, and urged that no sanction be enforced until such material is shared and independently validated. It added that upon receipt of credible information, its internal disciplinary mechanisms would be activated in line with its constitution.

The APC reiterated its commitment to the Joint Agreement of 11 November 2025 and said it remains dedicated to promoting political stability, tolerance, and adherence to due process as Sierra Leone continues to strengthen its democratic institutions.
