Hon. Mohamed Bangura, Member of Parliament for the All People’s Congress (APC), has formally called upon the newly confirmed Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) Chairman, Edmond Sylvester Alpha, to commit to impartiality and serve the collective interests of all Sierra Leonean citizens.

During the parliamentary proceedings for the approval of new presidential appointees, MP Bangura underscored the ECSL Chairman's crucial responsibility in safeguarding the nation’s democratic framework.

"To the proposed ECSL Chairman, Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha, I want you to appreciate that the happiness, peace, and lives of eight million Sierra Leoneans rest with the integrity of your office. I urge you to execute your duties by treating all political parties equitably," he stated before the legislative body.

Bangura’s statement reflects the strong expectation that the ECSL leadership must operate with fairness and neutrality, thereby ensuring a level playing field for all political competitors in upcoming elections.

Alpha’s parliamentary approval officially transitions him from an acting capacity, positioning him to oversee preparations for the forthcoming 2028 national elections.

This emphasis on impartiality is particularly timely amidst ongoing national discussions regarding electoral reforms and the imperative of maintaining robust public confidence in Sierra Leone’s core democratic institutions.
