APC's Warisay Claims Bio Sees Kamara as Major Threat Ahead of 2028 Elections

Mohamed Warisay, APC spokesman and representative of the Electoral Justice Campaign, has alleged that President Julius Maada Bio considers Dr. Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara, APC presidential candidate in 2018 and 2023, a significant political threat.

Warisay claimed that government security forces have been monitoring Kamara’s properties in recent months, raising concerns for his personal safety and that of his family.

Speculation had grown in recent months about Kamara’s whereabouts, with some suggesting he might be in hiding. On 20 November, Warisay clarified the situation, stating: “Dr. Samura is not in hiding. He is in a secure location, and for security reasons, he may speak to the world from his car at an undisclosed location.”

Warisay further alleged that the surveillance activities, believed to involve state security personnel, were intended to limit Kamara’s ability to speak publicly on national issues ahead of the 2028 elections.

These remarks followed Kamara’s Mini-Zoom address delivered on 18 November during the SLAM/Global Symposium themed “Sierra Leone’s Democracy at the Crossroads: The Imperative of Truth, Justice, and Renewal.” The video, recorded inside a car under low lighting, added to public curiosity about Kamara’s current location.

While Warisay confirmed that Kamara remains in a secure location, he warned that ongoing monitoring of his properties continues to raise security concerns.

The APC has framed these developments as indicative of rising political tensions in Sierra Leone, cautioning that alleged intimidation of political opponents could have implications for the country’s democratic process.
