On June 18, 2026, the High Court of Sierra Leone, presided over by the Honourable Justice Andrew S.C. Johnson, delivered a judgment in the matter of the State versus Asandra Denise.

The defendant, a 37-year-old South African national, was convicted on a five-count indictment under the National Drugs Control Act 2008, involving the unlawful possession, dealing, collection, importation, and transportation of prohibited substances.

The prosecution established that Ms. Denise was apprehended at Freetown International Airport in possession of 365 pellets of cocaine, with a total weight of approximately 5.4 kilograms.

Forensic analysis confirmed the substance as Cocaine Hydrochloride. Despite the defendant's plea of not guilty, the Court found the prosecution's evidence to be credible and unchallenged, concluding that the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt had been met.

Justice Johnson imposed custodial sentences for each of the five counts, ranging from 10 to 30 years.

While the aggregate term amounted to 130 years, the Court ordered that the sentences shall run concurrently, effective from the date of the convict's initial remand.

Furthermore, the Court directed the forfeiture and supervised destruction of all seized narcotics and related exhibits.
