Operators of beach bars, nightclubs, event venues, and other entertainment facilities along Lumley Beach face possible closure if they fail to comply with noise pollution regulations enforced by the National Tourist Board (NTB) and the Ministry of
Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MoTCA).
In a press release dated 4 June 2026, the NTB and MoTCA reminded operators that the amended Public Order Act 2020 prohibits the playing of loud and disruptive music or noisy instruments in residential communities after 10:00 p.m.
The agencies further stated that the Beach Policy Guidelines also ban excessive and disruptive music from beach bars, nightclubs, and event organisers operating along the Lumley beachfront.
According to the guidelines, operators are required to reduce music to a minimum level by 12:00 midnight and completely switch it off by 2:00 a.m. Authorities warned that failure to comply with these directives will lead to the closure of affected facilities.
The NTB said enforcement measures will be carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the Sierra Leone Police to ensure full compliance.
The agencies urged all operators to strictly adhere to the regulations, stressing that compliance is crucial to preserving the integrity and sustainability of Sierra Leone’s tourism sector.
They also commended operators who have remained compliant and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a fair, orderly, and sustainable business environment within the tourism industry.
