Bilateral Partners Expand Educational and Scholarship Cooperation

Sierra Leone and Russia are expanding higher education cooperation by increasing scholarship opportunities and introducing Russian-language training programs.
The initiative follows bilateral talks in Saint Petersburg between Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Sarjoh Aziz-Kamara, and Russia’s Deputy Minister, Konstantin Mogilevsky. Both parties discussed strengthening academic partnerships and supporting technical, vocational, medical, and agricultural education.
Over 150 Sierra Leonean students currently study in Russia, including six who recently earned fully funded scholarships through the Open Doors program. Russian officials expressed readiness to boost scholarship allocations further.
To help students adapt and succeed, Sierra Leone is exploring permanent Russian-language training centers, with introductory classes already underway and plans for a cultural center at Eastern Technical University’s Kenema campus.
