Police Inspector Saio Koroma was caught in possession of tramadol capsules during a routine inspection at the Gbalamuya Border Crossing in Kambia District.
The drugs were found aboard a commercial vehicle with registration number ARW 498.
The seizure was conducted by the National Revenue Authority’s Anti-Smuggling Unit (ASU), in collaboration with the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) of the Sierra Leone Police and other security personnel stationed at the border.

Examination of the confiscated drugs revealed seven wraps, each containing 20 boxes, with each box holding 10 blisters of 10 capsules of 100mg tramadol. An additional 10 boxes, each containing 10 blisters of 10 capsules of 100mg tramadol, were also seized.
Authorities said the confiscation is part of ongoing efforts to prevent the illegal transport and distribution of controlled substances. The involvement of a police officer as custodian of the shipment adds a complex dimension to the case.

The National Revenue Authority and Sierra Leone Police have not yet provided details on the next steps regarding the investigation or how the confiscated drugs will be handled.
