Businessman Accused of Fraudulent Vehicle Conversion Remanded at Pademba Road

A businessman accused of fraudulently converting a valued vehicle for his personal use was remanded in custody yesterday at Pademba Road Magistrate Court in Freetown.

Abubakarr Kamara, 41, made his first appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No.1, facing a charge of fraudulent conversion contrary to Section 20(1)(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to court documents, sometime in 2024 at Brookfields in the Western Area of Freetown, Kamara allegedly converted a property entrusted to him a white Toyota 4Runner Jeep with registration number AGV 111 for his own use. The vehicle, valued at five thousand United States dollars (equivalent to Le 118,500), had been entrusted to him by Odontola Mason for the operation of the Water Side Company.

During the proceedings, Kamara did not enter a plea, as the hearing was for a preliminary investigation. The prosecution, represented by Chief Superintendent of Police T.B. Zizer, informed the court that all relevant documents had been served to the defendant and that witnesses would be brought forward to testify against him.

Magistrate Jah denied bail and remanded Kamara to the male correctional facility in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to 1 December 2025.
