CAF rejects SLFA' s proposal to Host Matchday at Southern Arena

Updated: May 5, 2023

The Confederation of African football (CAF) has rejected the Sierra Leone Football Association's proposal to host Sierra Leone Vs Nigeria Matchday qualifier at the Southern Arena in Bo City.

According to the African Football body , the decision is owing to the lack of Standard hotels in the country's second city of Bo.

The Group A fixture is scheduled for June , 2023 , as hosts Sierra Leone remains upbeat about qualification to keep their chances of reaching the Afcon finals in Ivory Coast next year.

The last time Leone stars played at home , they held Nigeria to a goalless draw in a 2020 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Freetown.

The streams of concern from the fans is how quick the FA will secure a nearer venue in the neighborhooding countries of Guinea and Liberia as time is desperately running out for Sierra Leone to obtain a back-to-back Afcon appearance.

Meanwhile, the hopes of Sierra Leone playing at home dashed , the five points obtained in four Afcon qualifying matches are not sufficient enough for Leone stars to put the chances of gracing the Afcon finals in Ivory Coast to bed.
