Chief Minister, Female Caucus Hold Cross-Party Dialogue on Women’s Empowerment and Reform

Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, in partnership with the President of the Female Caucus of Parliament, Hon. Wuyatta Songa, has led a cross-party dialogue bringing together MPs from the SLPP and APC to discuss the Tripartite Report Recommendations and proposed constitutional reforms with a focus on women’s rights.

Over 20 female MPs and several male HeForShe advocates joined the discussion, alongside civil society representatives and Deputy Minister of Justice, Madam Saptieu Elizabeth Saccoh, who shared updates on gender-focused legislation.

Chief Minister Sengeh highlighted President Julius Maada Bio’s landmark reforms such as the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act and the Ending Child Marriage Act which have boosted women’s participation and leadership across sectors.

Participants stressed the need to protect cultural values while eliminating barriers that limit women’s potential. Supported by International IDEA, the dialogue fostered collaboration between lawmakers and civil society in advancing inclusive governance.

Dr. Sengeh described the engagement as “a moment for listening and learning,” reaffirming government’s commitment to gender equality and constitutional reform.
