Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, convened a high-level meeting on Thursday, 19 February 2026, to review progress on the Kpetema–Mattru Jong Road project, following directives from President Julius Maada Bio to ensure the road’s completion before the onset of the rainy season.

The road project is a key infrastructure investment under the Government’s Big Five Game Changers, specifically Pillar Four: Technology and Infrastructure. Once completed, it is expected to improve connectivity, enhance trade and agricultural movement, and contribute significantly to national development.

In his opening remarks, Chief Minister Sengeh stressed the importance of establishing the current status of works, identifying bottlenecks, and agreeing on concrete measures to accelerate completion.

Hon. Dr. Denis Sandy, Minister of Works and Public Assets, reaffirmed his Ministry’s commitment to collaborating with the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), the Ministry of Finance, and contractors to ensure efficiency, accountability, and timely delivery of the project.

Providing a technical update, Ing. Jalil Momodu, Director-General of SLRA, reported that the project is currently 65% complete. He added that an additional 13 kilometers of road are expected to be completed by June, with full completion targeted for December 2026.

The contractor, Alpha Mohamed Lavalie, Country Manager of Maripoma EnT. Ltd., assured the government of the company’s commitment to meeting deadlines and resolving outstanding challenges to fast-track the project’s completion.

Chief Minister Sengeh reiterated the government’s determination to deliver quality infrastructure that transforms communities and drives inclusive economic growth.
