Chief Minister’s Wife Receives Passport Under New Digitized Immigration System

Kate Krontiris, wife of Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has received her Sierra Leonean passport following the completion of her naturalization process, becoming one of the early recipients under the country’s newly digitized passport system.

In a social media post, Krontiris said the process began in February when she submitted her application for naturalization, which has now been finalized.

“It’s official and I have the passport to prove it,” she wrote.

She noted that the passport was issued through Sierra Leone’s newly implemented fully digitized passport system, which is part of ongoing reforms within the Immigration Department aimed at improving service delivery and administrative efficiency.

According to her, the system reduced the need for multiple visits to passport offices, provided a traceable application process, and ensured that payments were made directly into official government accounts.

While acknowledging some challenges within the system, she said her overall experience reflected improvements in public service delivery.

Krontiris also referenced her previous work with the United States Digital Service during the administration of former U.S. President Barack Obama, where she contributed to digital modernization efforts, including immigration-related systems.

She said that experience reinforced her belief in the importance of effective digital governance, adding that technology must be designed to ensure accessibility and inclusion.

“We all know that digitization isn’t the same as inclusion unless it’s built that way,” she stated.

Her comments come as Sierra Leone continues to expand digital reforms across key public institutions, including immigration services, as part of broader public sector modernization efforts.
